Dr Nishanta Tangirala is an Australian dual-trained nephrologist and obstetric medicine specialist with a broad interest in kidney disease and maternal health. A Foundational Scholar, she is currently pursuing a PhD through the University of Adelaide that uniquely combines both specialty areas.
Nishanta has been involved in both clinical practice and research, with several peer-reviewed publications and national awards. She is actively involved in several national committees working to improve care standards and is passionate about education, training medical students and physician exam candidates.
Her clinical experience spans general nephrology and obstetric medicine. Nishanta has led obstetric nephrology services across multiple Australian tertiary hospitals and contributed to statewide protocols. She currently serves as an Honorary Medical Officer in the Nephrology Department at St George Public Hospital.
Nishanta is excited to join the team at ISMC and is committed to providing compassionate evidenced-based care tailored to each patient’s needs. She focuses on building strong, trusting relationships with her patients. Nishanta has a unique expertise in family planning and preconception counselling, helping women with health complexities navigate the path to starting or growing their families. She works closely with general practitioners and/or obstetricians to provide smooth coordinated care, especially in the areas of pregnancy management, family planning and the optimisation of kidney health.
